Karakastek Hunting Grounds
Located in the Zhambyl district of the Almaty region, “Karakastek” is about 50 km west of Almaty along the Almaty – Uzynagash highway, making it highly attractive to urban hunters. Spanning an area of 89,428 hectares, “Karakastek” occupies the northern slope of the Kastek ridge, the Suik Tobe ridge, Zhetyzhol, and parts of the northeastern spur of the Zailiysky Alatau. The ridges’ altitudes range from 2,600 to 3,200 meters above sea level. “Karakastek” is abundant in mountain rivers, including the Kastek and Karakastek rivers, which originate from the watershed of the Kastek ridge. It is home to the southern population of Siberian roe deer, as well as various game bird species, such as pheasants, partridges, ulars, quails, and others.
